Capacity building

The IAIS supports its Members by sharing good supervisory practices and facilitating understanding of supervisory issues. To this end, the IAIS promotes supervisory capacity building initiatives to address gaps and challenges in the implementation of the IAIS supervisory material.

Furthermore, enabling the cooperation amongst insurance supervisors and the exchange of supervisory information is another key pillar supporting the IAIS’ implementation work.

Working closely with key implementation partners such as the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), the Financial Stability Institute (FSI), the International Association of Actuaries (IAA), the UN-convened Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF) and the Toronto Centre, as well as international organisations and regional associations of supervisors, the IAIS supports training seminars and conferences, as well as initiatives to support financial inclusion, enable peer exchange amongst supervisors and facilitate supervisory cooperation.

The IAIS is particularly committed to helping its Members from jurisdictions considered emerging markets and developing economies (EMDE) to keep pace with their insurance markets’ growth and deepening. Through the cooperation with the implementation partners and regional associations of supervisors the IAIS extends its geographical reach and bolster the in-person and virtual mix of capacity-building events.

In addition to the capacity building initiatives, the IAIS supports the implementation of its supervisory material by fostering cooperation and information exchange among its members through the Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU).
